6 States of Home, 2026
Performance, video
Directed by Iskra Tarrant
This project draws inspiration from the six grammatical cases of nouns in the Azerbaijani language (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, locative, ablative). Each case expresses a shifting state, relationship, or direction of a being or a place. In the performance, the word “home” is chosen as the central image – both as a physical space and as a metaphor for inner emotional states. The six cases of the word home – home, of the home, to the home, the home, in the home, from the home – will be embodied on stage by six different performers. Each performer represents one grammatical case, bringing to life the semantic and emotional transformations of the concept of home. Over time, the image of home will evolve:what begins as a place of comfort and happiness gradually transforms into a symbol of attachment, restriction, and confinement. In this way, the performance poetically traces the transformation of home from a loving refuge into a space of control and fear.
